PiinPoint's Mobile Traffic Data tool makes capturing traffic volumes more accessible than ever, by quickly querying the Average Annual Daily Traffic on a given road segment, by vehicles or pedestrian.
In the era of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ability to understand how traffic volumes trend up or down from year to year becomes increasingly important. How much did restrictions or neighbouring store closures really impact potential walk or drive-by traffic? Where are we seeing a sustained level of traffic volumes?
In our most recent product release, PiinPoint now allows for users to query AADT data across multiple years (e.g. 2019 vs 2020)*, in order to observe changes over time.
⚠️ We've also retired the Mobile Location Data feature panel, by consolidating the Traffic Volume query tool into the Traffic panel.
*Please note these year-over-year capabilities are only applicable across Canadian geographies at this time.

There are a few new things included in this release, each which are detailed below:
The Mobile Location Data panel and Traffic panel are now consolidated within a single panel, under the title of "Traffic." This makes it more intuitive for users to know where to find the traffic query tool (ie. within "Traffic").
The Mobile Data Traffic query functionality is now housed within the Traffic panel, rather than being in the Mobile Location Data panel:
CONGESTION TOGGLE IS IN A NEW SPOT
The toggle for congestion has been moved from within the dropdown list to the top right-hand area of the panel. This allows users to access it without having to click on a dropdown (saves clicks 🎉 ).
MULTIPLE YEARS TO QUERY TRAFFIC ON
In addition to the 2019 AADT estimations that are currently in-app, you can now also view 2020 AADT estimations, by simply selecting an alternative year from the dropdown list:
TRENDS ARE REPORTED ON IN THE SUMMARY PANEL
The summary panel on the right hand side now also shows the percentage difference from the previous year, when looking at the most recent year (ie. 2020):
COUNTS ARE CACHED
Querying counts is run off of on-the-fly data processing and model calculations. What that means is, in some highly dense areas with high volumes, it can take a bit of time to query the counts you're looking for.
With our latest release, PiinPoint now saves previously queried road segments so you can quickly toggle between segments in an area without waiting on longer load times. 🙌🏻
