Being able to see where your customers are coming from will provide endless value for your business. If you’re looking to bring this data into PiinPoint, you will need:

Customer Addresses

First and foremost you’ll need to have a set of customer data, with customer addresses! You might get this from your POS vendor, your loyalty program, or any other data collection methods you have for your customers. Even if you don’t have their actual street address, you can actually just use postal or ZIP codes.

Customer ID

This number or name makes it so that that you can reference X number of unique customer points. You can number them 1 – 1000 (or however many customers you’ve brought in), or have them be consistent with your own internal method of identifying customers.

Latitude and Longitude

This associates the customer address directly to a coordinate on a map. If you don’t have this information for your customers, let us know and PiinPoint can geocode it for you (that’s the process of assigning a latitude and longitude). This can take a bit of time depending on the size of the file.

The Store They Visited

This field is really important, because it makes the difference between just seeing your customers mapped by density versus your network’s performance and popularity. Make sure you associate this with whatever Unique ID you’ve used in PiinPoint. E.g. If a customer visited store number "4" then enter four into this column.

Volume

To make the analysis in PiinPoint worthwhile, it’s best to have at least a month’s worth of customer data. Don’t stop there though of course – the more the merrier! If you have 10 years of customer data, that’s good too.

That’s the bare minimum. If you have any other data associated with your customers, like how much they spend, or their age, etc. you can add in more detail in the subsequent columns of your file. Once you have all this information, refer to uploading a layer and scroll down to Contribution Layers to get your data working in PiinPoint.
